Terra Incognita – „unknown land“ – is a term used in cartography for regions that have not been mapped or documented. Years ago, cartographers labeled such regions with „HIC SVNT DRACONES“ („here be dragons“) and decorated their maps with fantastic beasts and dragons.

Today our Planet Earth has been thoroughly examined and documented, but when you go down to the level of an individual man, you will find that each of us carries his or her own concept of „Terra Incognita“, the Unknown Land. And this is the land, which is waiting for you to be explored…

So what is your „Terra Incognita“? Do you know the name of it? Where would you go to discover your „unknown land“?

We have been searching for it through:

  • The mysterious Inca city of Macchu Picchu hidden deep in the Peruvian Andes
  • Hostile Australian desert lands where only Aborigines know how to survive
  • Great Barrier Reef overwhelming with its beauty and diversity of colors and forms of life
  • Grand Canyon Colorado unveiling for you the mystery and power of time

I am sure there is still a lot of journeys waiting for us to be undertaken. I am also sure that a journey into the men’s soul will be one on this list. For me, it is the ultimate “Terra Incognita” defining the sense of all other journeys we undertake here on Earth.

But first, on the following pages of this blog let me share with you the holiday travels and weekend trips, which we have undertaken as a family. These were our journeys to discover the name of our „Terra Incognita”. These journeys showed us – and our children – how our world is beautiful and diverse. They also offered countless opportunities to strengthen our family and become more open to changes, which you need to face in everyday life. They also helped us better understand people living in completely different parts of the world and thus in completely different cultures and religions.

I hope that this blog will inspire you to take your family out of luxury resorts and go for a family adventure. It is so much fun when you plan your holidays all by yourself and then you face the challenge of being a traveler and an adventurer. Try it for the first time! You will never want to come back to the package holidays...

The core of this blog is about traveling in the geographic sense but in the section “Only for men” I am going to share my thoughts and observations on the journey to the man’s soul – it is the place where we are not really willing to look every day...

Feel free to join me on this journey and share your reflections.

Bon Voyage!
